TL;DR
This study investigates the atomic-scale origins of interfacial Dzyaloshinskii--Moriya interaction in Pt/Fe/Au heterostructures, revealing how interfacial properties influence the strength of i-DMI in thick Fe films.
Contribution
It provides a detailed magnetic characterization linking interfacial composition and magnetization tilt to the strength of i-DMI in Pt/Fe/Au systems.
Findings
i-DMI constant of 0.43 mJ/m^2 in Pt/Fe/Au
Presence of significant surface anisotropy
Interfacial Fe exhibits tilted magnetization and enhanced hyperfine field
Abstract
Recent results show remarkable interfacial--Dzyaloshinskii--Moriya interaction (i-DMI) in magnetic heterostructures composed of relatively thick Fe thin films ( nm). To investigate its origin, we present a thorough magnetic characterization of the SiO/()/Au and SiO/Pt/()/Au heterostructures ( - nm). An i-DMI constant of is extracted for the Pt/Fe/Au system, as probed by wavevector-resolved Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy. Ferromagnetic resonance and conversion electron M\"ossbauer spectroscopy indicate that significant surface anisotropy is present in Pt/Fe/Au, and that an interfacial Fe fraction () exhibits tilted magnetization ( out of plane) and an enhanced hyperfine field, correlating with the stronger i-DMI.
