$\phi$ and $J/\psi$ Production in Proton-Proton Scattering through Hadronic Molecules
Di Ben, Bing-Song Zou

TL;DR
This paper investigates how hidden-strangeness and hidden-charm hadronic molecular states contribute to $$ and $J/\psi$ production in proton-proton collisions, providing theoretical predictions and simulation data to guide future experiments.
Contribution
It introduces a novel mechanism involving hadronic molecules to explain $$ spin alignment and offers detailed cross-section calculations and Monte Carlo simulations for experimental planning.
Findings
Cross-sections of $$ and $J/\psi$ production are estimated at $ ext{~}10~ ext{ extmu}b$ and $0.1~ ext{nb}$ respectively.
Monte Carlo simulations produce lab-frame distributions for $pp o ppK^+K^-$ and $pp o pp\mu^+\mu^-$ final states.
A new explanation for $$ spin alignment in heavy-ion collisions involving hidden-strangeness molecular states is proposed.
Abstract
This study estimates the contributions of hidden-strangeness hadronic molecular states (, ) to production and hidden-charm states to production in collisions. The calculated cross-sections reach for and for at energies ~GeV above threshold. We also compute the spin density matrix element and the decay angular distributions for and . To support future experiments, we conduct Monte Carlo simulations for the four-body final states of and . The resulting lab-frame distributions are expected to inform detector design at facilities like the High-Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF) and the proposed Chinese Advanced Nuclear Physics Research Facility (CNUF), enabling more…
