TL;DR
This paper investigates a new memory effect in multimode optical fibers where an output ring retains the input focus radius, showing robustness to perturbations and potential for spatial multiplexing applications.
Contribution
The study introduces a novel radial memory effect in multimode fibers, highlighting its robustness and potential for enhancing spatial multiplexing techniques.
Findings
Identification of a stable output ring at the input focus radius
Robustness of the effect against fiber perturbations
Potential application in spatial multiplexing
Abstract
We present a study of a novel memory effect in multimode optical fibres, which manifests itself as an output ring of excess energy at the same radius as an input focussed spot. This effect is robust against fibre perturbations, and we discuss its possible use for spatial multiplexing.
