Natalia Echeverry, Arun Lekshmi Narayanan

TL;DR
This study surveys 26 CS students to understand their resource usage, revealing AI tools are primarily used for coding and debugging, with preferences varying by experience level.
Contribution
It provides new insights into how CS students utilize AI coding assistants and online resources for different coding tasks.
Findings
AI coding assistants are mainly used for writing code
AI chatbots are the top resource for debugging
Students with different experience levels prefer online help over human assistance
Abstract
A survey of 26 CS students reveals that AI coding assistants are mainly used for writing code (second to online searches) while AI chatbots are the top resource for debugging. Participants with different coding experience prefer online help over direct human help from peers and instructors.
