TL;DR
This paper investigates the power consumption of hybrid-amplified SCL-band optical links, demonstrating a significant energy reduction of up to 26% compared to traditional lumped amplification methods.
Contribution
It provides an empirical analysis of hybrid Raman amplification, quantifying energy savings and performance improvements in multi-span optical links.
Findings
Up to 26% reduction in energy per bit with hybrid amplification.
Empirical data from commercial equipment supports energy efficiency benefits.
Analysis of power consumption in multi-span optical communication links.
Abstract
We studied the power consumption of hybrid-amplified SCL-band links using commercial benchtop amplifiers and Raman pumps. We show a reduction in energy per bit for multi-span hybrid Raman amplified links of up to 26% versus lumped amplification.
