Constructed Realities? Technical and Contextual Anomalies in a High-Profile Image
Matthias Wjst

TL;DR
This forensic study analyzes a high-profile photograph, revealing inconsistencies suggestive of digital manipulation, but cannot definitively confirm its authenticity due to lack of original evidence.
Contribution
The paper introduces a forensic methodology combining scene reconstruction and reference image analysis to assess the authenticity of a controversial photograph.
Findings
Multiple inconsistencies indicate possible digital compositing.
Identification of two unrelated source images suggests fabrication.
Absence of original print prevents definitive conclusion.
Abstract
This study offers a forensic assessment of a widely circulated photograph featuring Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Virginia Giuffre, and Ghislaine Maxwell, an image that has played a pivotal role in public discourse and legal narratives. Numerous inconsistencies emerge across multiple published versions, including irregularities in lighting, posture, and physical interaction, which are more consistent with digital compositing than with an unmanipulated original. The analysis includes a 3D reconstruction of the scene geometry and a search of reference images matched to the identified camera model. Because no original print is available, and no verifiable chain of custody exists for the original, definitive conclusions remain unattainable. Even so, the technical and contextual anomalies indicate that the photograph may have been deliberately fabricated, particularly since two probable source…
