A new study of the interactions of the axion with mesons and photons using a chiral effective Lagrangian model
Enrico Meggiolaro, Mirko Tamburini

TL;DR
This paper extends a chiral effective Lagrangian model to study axion interactions with mesons and photons, calculating axion mass, electromagnetic coupling, and decay widths involving eta, eta', and pions.
Contribution
It introduces a more general model including charged quarks under the Peccei-Quinn symmetry, and computes key axion-related decay processes and couplings.
Findings
Calculated axion mass and electromagnetic coupling.
Determined decay amplitudes and widths for eta/eta' to pions and axion.
Extended the model to include flavor-singlet mesons and axial anomaly effects.
Abstract
In this paper, we extend the results obtained in a previous work and investigate the most interesting decay processes involving axions, photons and the lightest pseudoscalar mesons in the more general case in which the quarks (and, therefore, the mesons) may be charged under the Peccei-Quinn symmetry, making use of a chiral effective Lagrangian model with light quark flavors, which also includes the flavor-singlet pseudoscalar meson and implements the axial anomaly of the fundamental theory. In particular, we compute the axion mass, the electromagnetic coupling of the axion to photons, and the amplitudes and widths of the decay processes .
