Environmental and Economic Impact of I/O Device Obsolescence
Patrick Gould, Guanqun Song, Ting Zhu

TL;DR
This paper examines how technological obsolescence of I/O devices leads to e-waste, analyzing its environmental and economic impacts due to hardware becoming unusable with new software or hardware generations.
Contribution
It provides a detailed analysis of I/O device obsolescence and its implications for e-waste, highlighting the economic and environmental consequences.
Findings
Significant proportion of I/O devices become obsolete over time.
Obsolescence contributes notably to e-waste and environmental degradation.
Economic costs associated with device replacement and disposal.
Abstract
This paper analyzes the proportion of Input/output devices made obsolete by changes in technology generations. This obsolescence may be by new software/hardware generations rendering otherwise functional devices unusable. Concluding with brief analysis on the economic and environmental impacts of the e-waste produced.
