TL;DR
This paper refines Standard Model predictions for B meson lifetimes and decay rates using NNLO-QCD corrections, achieving reduced uncertainties and good agreement with experimental data within the heavy quark expansion framework.
Contribution
The study incorporates recent NNLO-QCD corrections into HQE predictions for B meson decay properties, significantly improving theoretical precision and consistency with experiments.
Findings
Predicted B meson decay widths with reduced uncertainties.
Calculated lifetime ratios aligning with experimental data.
Provided updated semileptonic branching fractions for B mesons.
Abstract
We update the Standard Model (SM) predictions for the lifetimes of the , and mesons within the heavy quark expansion (HQE), including the recently determined NNLO-QCD corrections to non-leptonic decays of the free -quark. In addition, we update the HQE predictions for the lifetime ratios and , and provide new results for the semileptonic branching fractions of the three mesons entirely within the HQE. We obtain a considerable improvement of the theoretical uncertainties, mostly due to the reduction of the renormalisation scale dependence when going from LO to NNLO, and for all the observables considered, we find good agreement, within uncertainties, between the HQE predictions and the corresponding experimental data. Our results read, respectively, , $\Gamma (B_d) =…
