TL;DR
This paper introduces a hierarchical Bayesian framework that jointly calibrates spectrophotometric standards and infers white dwarf and dust parameters, achieving high-precision calibration across a broad wavelength range for future astronomical surveys.
Contribution
It is the first to simultaneously model photometric and spectroscopic data for white dwarf standards, enabling sub-percent calibration accuracy and population analysis.
Findings
Achieved <0.004 mag RMS residuals across UV to NIR wavelengths.
Jointly inferred system sensitivity changes and nonlinearity corrections.
Provided spectral energy distributions crucial for future telescope calibration.
Abstract
We use hierarchical Bayesian modelling to calibrate a network of 32 all-sky faint DA white dwarf (DA WD) spectrophotometric standards () alongside three CALSPEC standards, from 912 \r{A} to 32 m. The framework is the first of its kind to jointly infer photometric zeropoints and WD parameters (surface gravity , effective temperature , extinction , dust relation parameter ) by simultaneously modelling both photometric and spectroscopic data. We model panchromatic Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Camera 3 (HST/WFC3) UVIS and IR photometry, HST/STIS UV spectroscopy and ground-based optical spectroscopy to sub-percent precision. Photometric residuals for the sample are the lowest yet yielding mag RMS on average from the UV to the NIR, achieved by jointly inferring time-dependent changes in system sensitivity and WFC3/IR…
