Abstract
In recent years, cryptocurrencies have enjoyed increased popularity in all domains. Thus, in this context, it is important to understand how these digital assets can be transmitted, both legally and efficiently, in the event of the death of their owner. The present paper analyses the mechanisms of cryptocurrencies, analysing from a technical point of view aspects related to blockchain technology, virtual wallets or cryptographic keys, as well as various types of operations regarding this type of virtual currencies. The study also examines the legal aspects related to cryptocurrencies, with an emphasis on the diversity of their status in different global jurisdictions as well as the impact on inheritance planning.
