TL;DR
This paper introduces a conformal geometric model for hypercolumns in the primary visual cortex V1, integrating symplectic and spherical models through classical conformal geometry principles.
Contribution
It presents a novel differential geometric framework combining existing models of V1 hypercolumns using conformal geometry techniques.
Findings
Provides a unified geometric model of V1 hypercolumns
Bridges symplectic and spherical models with conformal geometry
Lays groundwork for advanced visual cortex modeling
Abstract
We propose a differential geometric model of hypercolumns in the primary visual cortex V1 that combines features of the symplectic model of the primary visual cortex by A. Sarti, G. Citti and J. Petitot and of the spherical model of hypercolumns by P. Bressloff and J. Cowan. The model is based on classical results in Conformal Geometry.
