On "Inconsistencies of metalens performance and comparison with conventional diffractive optics"
Amir Arbabi, Andrei Faraon

TL;DR
This paper critically reviews claims that high-NA metalenses have inconsistent focusing efficiencies with theoretical bounds, finding that the original claims lack sufficient support and clarifying the performance comparison with conventional optics.
Contribution
The paper provides a critical analysis of recent claims about metalens efficiency inconsistencies, clarifying misunderstandings and reaffirming the validity of reported measurements.
Findings
Claims of efficiency inconsistencies are not well supported
Measurement results are consistent with theoretical bounds
The review clarifies the comparison with conventional optics
Abstract
It was recently claimed1 that reported focusing efficiency values of high numerical aperture metalenses are inconsistent with a theoretical bound, and their measurement results are incorrectly interpreted. We review the article and conclude that these claims are not well supported.
