Yanchao Jiang, Fabrizio Forghieri, Stefano Piciaccia, Gabriella Bosco,, Pierluigi Poggiolini

TL;DR
This paper examines the residual throughput penalty caused by ISRS in multiband systems after power optimization, and reevaluates the 3-dB launch power rule, highlighting its limitations for system performance.
Contribution
The study provides new insights into the residual penalty effects of ISRS and offers a revised perspective on launch power optimization in multiband optical systems.
Findings
Residual throughput penalty due to ISRS is mild after optimization.
Using the 3-dB launch power rule can increase GSN R non-uniformity.
Reevaluates the advisability of the 3-dB rule in multiband systems.
Abstract
We investigate the residual throughput penalty due to ISRS, after power-optimization, in multiband systems. We show it to be mild. We also revisit the launch power optimization 3-dB rule. We find that using it is possible but not advisable due to increased GSNR non-uniformity.
