Wing-Chau Ng, Chuandong Li

TL;DR
This paper experimentally compares average-power constrained and peak-power constrained 64QAM modulation schemes under optimal clipping in 400Gbps unamplified coherent optical links, demonstrating a 1dB link budget improvement with the clipped MB distribution.
Contribution
It provides the first experimental comparison of these modulation schemes under optimal clipping in high-speed unamplified optical links.
Findings
Clipped MB distribution outperforms peak-power constrained 64QAM by 1dB link budget.
End-to-end link budget optimization is feasible with clipping techniques.
Experimental validation in 400Gbps unamplified links shows practical benefits.
Abstract
We experimentally demonstrated an end-to-end link budget optimization over clipping in 400Gbps unamplified links, showing that the clipped MB distribution outperforms the peak-power constrained 64QAM by 1dB link budget.
