Charm fragmentation fractions and ${\rm c\overline{c}}$ cross section in p$-$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV
ALICE Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper measures charm-quark production and fragmentation in p-Pb collisions at 5.02 TeV, providing new data on charm-hadron yields, fragmentation fractions, and nuclear modification factors, consistent with pQCD and previous measurements.
Contribution
First measurement of charm production cross section and fragmentation fractions in p-Pb collisions at 5.02 TeV, expanding understanding of charm quark behavior in nuclear environments.
Findings
Charm cross section is consistent with binary scaling from pp collisions.
Fragmentation fractions align with pp measurements at similar energies.
Charm quark nuclear modification factor is near unity, indicating minimal nuclear effects.
Abstract
The total charm-quark production cross section per unit of rapidity , and the fragmentation fractions of charm quarks to different charm-hadron species , are measured for the first time in pPb collisions at TeV at midrapidity ( in the centre-of-mass frame) using data collected by ALICE at the CERN LHC. The results are obtained based on all the available measurements of prompt production of ground-state charm-hadron species: , , , and mesons, and and baryons. The resulting cross section is $\mathrm{d}\sigma({\rm c\overline{c}})/\mathrm{d}y =219.6 \pm 6.3\;(\mathrm{stat.}) {\;}_{-11.8}^{+10.5}\;(\mathrm{syst.})…
