Marcelo Barbosa, Horatiu Nastase, Carlos Nunez, Ricardo Stuardo

TL;DR
This paper explores Penrose limits of two gravity duals involving compactified D5-branes, revealing a correspondence between string modes in pp wave backgrounds and spin chains in lower-dimensional field theories.
Contribution
It demonstrates the matching of string oscillator spectra with spin chain models in two different compactified D5-brane setups, extending the gauge/gravity correspondence.
Findings
Oscillator spectra match spin chain models
String masses correspond to spin chain excitations
Results apply to both (2+1) and (1+1)-dimensional theories
Abstract
In this paper we consider the Penrose limit in the case of two gravity duals. One of them, consists of compactified I-branes (intersecting sets of D5-branes over dimensions). The second consists of D5-branes compactified on a circle. Both compactifications preserve SUSY. We find a match of the oscillators and masses of string modes on the resulting pp wave against a spin chain in a dimensional field theory in the first case, and a spin chain in a dimensional field theory in the second.
