Automatic adjustment of undulator optics for FELs
Zhichu Chen, Bart Faatz

TL;DR
This paper presents a method for automatically adjusting quadrupole focusing in free-electron lasers to enhance stability, accounting for energy variations and focusing effects, applicable to various strongly focusing undulators.
Contribution
It introduces a generalized automatic adjustment procedure for undulator optics that improves FEL stability across different configurations.
Findings
Enhanced stability of FEL operation through automatic quadrupole tuning.
Applicable to a wide range of strongly focusing undulators.
Reduces manual intervention in FEL alignment processes.
Abstract
In this paper, we describe a way to automatically adjust the quadrupole focusing along the undulator to avoid the instabilities, taking into account energy change and undulator focusing. The procedure is more generalized and applicable to any strongly focusing (planar) undulator.
