Asymmetric $\mathbb{Z}_4$ orbifolds of type IIB string theory revisited
George Gkountoumis

TL;DR
This paper constructs new asymmetric $ Z_4$ orbifold models of type IIB string theory on $T^5$, demonstrating their consistency with different lattice choices and varying supersymmetry levels in five dimensions.
Contribution
It revisits and refines the construction of asymmetric $ Z_4$ orbifolds, showing they are well-defined with the SO(8) lattice, expanding previous work that used the SU(2)$^4$ lattice.
Findings
Models preserve 8, 16, or 24 supercharges.
Well-defined models depend on lattice choice, favoring SO(8).
Provides a consistent framework for asymmetric orbifolds in string theory.
Abstract
We construct freely acting asymmetric orbifolds of type IIB string theory on preserving 24,16 or 8 supercharges in five dimensions. We show that these models are well-defined if the SO(8) lattice is chosen, instead of the SU(2) lattice, which was previously considered in the literature.
