TL;DR
This study uses ALMA to search for [CII] emission from galaxies associated with OI absorbers at z~6, finding one confirmed emitter and several tentative candidates, shedding light on early galaxy environments and metal enrichment.
Contribution
First statistical analysis of [CII] and dust emission in OI absorber fields at z~6, revealing the presence of some massive galaxies contributing to metal enrichment during reionization.
Findings
Detected one [CII] emitter associated with OI absorber.
No other emitters brighter than detection limit within 50 kpc.
Tentative galaxy candidates found at larger impact parameters with high velocities.
Abstract
We report the first statistical analyses of [CII] and dust continuum observations in six strong OI absorber fields at the end of the reionization epoch obtained by the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA). Combined with one [CII] emitter reported in Wu et al. (2021), we detect one OI-associated [CII] emitter in six fields. At redshifts of OI-absorbers in non-detection fields, no emitters are brighter than our detection limit within impact parameters of 50 kpc and velocity offsets between . The averaged [CII]-detection upper limit is Jy (3), corresponding to the [CII] luminosity of and the [CII]-based star formation rate of yr. Cosmological simulations suggest that only [CII] emitters around [OI] absorbers…
