TL;DR
This paper reviews the experimental evidence supporting Quantum Chromodynamics' prediction that the strong coupling decreases at high energies, confirming asymptotic freedom in particle physics.
Contribution
It summarizes the historical development and current status of experimental tests validating asymptotic freedom in Quantum Chromodynamics.
Findings
Experimental confirmation of decreasing strong coupling at high energies
Support for asymptotic freedom as a fundamental property of QCD
Overview of key experiments and their results
Abstract
Quantum Chromodynamics predicts that the strong coupling strength decreases with increasing energy or momentum transfer, and vanishes at asymptotically high energies. The history and the status of experimental tests of asymptotic freedom are summarised in this review.
