The Information Geometry of UMAP
Alexander Kolpakov, Aidan Rocke

TL;DR
This paper explores the geometric foundations of UMAP, linking it to Information Geometry, and suggests that UMAP's principles can be understood through a natural geometric lens beyond its categorical origins.
Contribution
It introduces a novel geometric interpretation of UMAP, connecting it to Information Geometry, expanding understanding of its theoretical basis.
Findings
UMAP has a natural interpretation within Information Geometry.
The geometric perspective offers new insights into UMAP's behavior.
Connections between category theory and geometry in UMAP are highlighted.
Abstract
In this note we highlight some connections of UMAP to the basic principles of Information Geometry. Originally, UMAP was derived from Category Theory observations. However, we posit that it also has a natural geometric interpretation.
