TL;DR
This study investigates the magnetic phase diagram of GdInO$_3$ single crystals, revealing complex magnetic transitions, a 1/3 plateau, and a 3/5 discontinuity, highlighting the effects of frustration and anisotropy in a hexagonal lattice.
Contribution
First detailed magnetic phase diagram of GdInO$_3$ showing frustration, anisotropy, and novel magnetic transitions in a hexagonal lattice.
Findings
Observation of a 1/3 magnetization plateau for B||c
Detection of a 3/5 magnetization discontinuity at low temperature
Identification of a possible tricritical point in the phase diagram
Abstract
We report the high-pressure optical floating-zone growth of GdInO single crystals and show its magnetic phase diagram down to the mK-regime as determined by magnetization measurements. The centered-honeycomb lattice structure shows considerable magnetic frustration () and develops long-range magnetic order below ~=~2.1 K from a short-range ordered paramagnetic phase. Concomitantly, a small net magnetic moment evolves at which points along the crystallographic direction. Upon cooling, the net moment reorients at K and K. A broad 1/3 plateau indicative of the up-up-down () spin configuration appears for but is absent for , thereby suggesting easy axis anisotropy. At K, a jump in magnetization at of the saturation magnetization signals a…
