Are task representations gated in macaque prefrontal cortex?
Timo Flesch, Valerio Mante, William Newsome, Andrew Saxe, Christopher, Summerfield, David Sussillo

TL;DR
This paper questions whether task representations are gated in the macaque prefrontal cortex, offering an alternative explanation to recent neural and behavioral findings that suggest gating occurs.
Contribution
It proposes a different interpretation of macaque prefrontal cortex data, challenging the idea that task representations are gated in this brain region.
Findings
Offers an alternative explanation for macaque prefrontal cortex data
Challenges the gating hypothesis of task representations in macaques
Stimulates re-evaluation of neural gating mechanisms in primates
Abstract
A recent paper (Flesch et al, 2022) describes behavioural and neural data suggesting that task representations are gated in the prefrontal cortex in both humans and macaques. This short note proposes an alternative explanation for the reported results from the macaque data.
