Identifying Resonant Poles by Visual Inspection of Pole-Zero Plots
Amro El-Jaroudi, Patrick Loughlin

TL;DR
This paper introduces a visual method for identifying resonance in LTI systems by inspecting pole-zero plots, eliminating the need for complex calculations.
Contribution
It provides a novel approach to detect resonance regions directly from pole-zero plots for both continuous and discrete systems.
Findings
Resonance regions can be visually identified from pole-zero plots.
The method simplifies resonance detection without calculations.
Applicable to both continuous-time and discrete-time systems.
Abstract
We derive the s- and z-plane pole regions for continuous-time and discrete-time LTI systems to yield resonance. In this way, resonance can be identified by visual inspection of the pole-zero plot, without the need for calculations.
