TL;DR
This study uses VLA CO(1-0) observations to discover three massive molecular gas clumps around a high-redshift radio galaxy, revealing complex gas structures and potential interactions like mergers or jet effects.
Contribution
First detection of multiple massive molecular gas reservoirs around a $z=5.2$ radio galaxy using VLA CO(1-0) observations, revealing off-center gas clumps and their possible origins.
Findings
Three massive molecular gas reservoirs detected with $M_{H_2} = (2.5-3.7) imes 10^{10} M_\\odot$
Clumps located 12-33 kpc from the host galaxy, aligned with radio jet axis
Host galaxy has high IR luminosity and SFR but low current star formation activity
Abstract
We present Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) K-band (19 GHz) observations of the redshifted CO(1-0) line emission toward the radio galaxy TN J09242201 at , which is one of the most distant CO-detected radio galaxies. With the angular resolution of , the CO(1-0) line emission is resolved into three clumps, within km\,s relative to its redshift, where is determined by Ly. We find that they locate off-center and 12-33 kpc away from the center of the host galaxy, which has counterparts in -band, /IRAC and ALMA Band-6 (230 GHz; 1.3 mm). With the ALMA detection, we estimate and SFR of the host galaxy to be and , respectively. We also derive the upper limit of at the host galaxy. The detected…
