Wind energy potential of the German Bight
Axel Kleidon

TL;DR
This paper assesses the wind energy potential of the German Bight, emphasizing offshore wind's role in Germany's energy transition and exploring the impact of expanding wind farms on atmospheric wind resources.
Contribution
It provides an analysis of offshore wind energy potential in the German Bight and examines the effects of increasing wind farm capacity on wind availability.
Findings
Offshore wind in the German Bight has high potential for energy generation.
Expanding wind farms may reduce local wind speeds, affecting future energy yields.
The study highlights the importance of sustainable planning for offshore wind expansion.
Abstract
The wind blows stronger and more reliably over the sea than over land. Thus, offshore wind energy is expected to make a major contribution to the energy transition in Germany, especially in the German Bight. But what happens when a growing number of wind farms extract more and more wind energy from the atmosphere?
