Seven Concepts Attributed to Sim\'eon-Denis Poisson
Yvette Kosmann-Schwarzbach

TL;DR
This paper explores the origins and development of various mathematical and physical concepts named after Siméon-Denis Poisson, highlighting his influence in science and mathematics.
Contribution
It provides a historical overview of the concepts attributed to Poisson and traces their evolution and significance in science and mathematics.
Findings
Poisson was appointed Professor at 25 and became influential in science.
Many concepts in mathematics and physics bear Poisson's name.
The paper sketches the history and development of these concepts.
Abstract
Sim\'eon-Denis Poisson was 25 years old when he was appointed Professor of Mathematics at the \'Ecole Polytechnique in 1806. Elected to the Paris Acad\'emie des Sciences six years later, he soon became one of its most influential members. The origin and later developments of the many concepts in mathematics and physics that bear his name make interesting stories, a few of which we shall attempt to sketch in this paper.
