Yuanhang Ning, Zheng Cai, Linhua Jiang, Xiaojing Lin, Shuqi Fu,, Daniele Spinoso

TL;DR
This study uses JWST/NIRCam imaging to analyze seven Lyα-emitting galaxies at z≈6, revealing their UV/optical properties, Lyα escape fractions, and ionizing photon production, highlighting their role in cosmic reionization.
Contribution
First detailed JWST-based analysis of Lyα galaxies at z≈6, measuring escape fractions and ionizing efficiencies, and linking UV properties to Lyα emission and reionization.
Findings
Most galaxies have Lyα escape fractions below 10%.
UV-faint, blue galaxies can have escape fractions up to 50%.
Higher Lyα emission correlates with increased ionizing photon production.
Abstract
We present a study of seven spectroscopically confirmed (Ly emitting) galaxies at redshift using the /NIRCam imaging data. These galaxies, with a wide range of Ly luminosities, were recently observed in a series of NIRCam broad- and medium-bands. We constrain the rest-frame UV/optical continua and measure the H line emission of the galaxies using the combination of the /NIRCam and archival /WFC3 infrared photometry. We further estimate their escape fractions of Ly photons () and the production efficiency of ionizing photons (). Among the sample, 6/7 galaxies have Ly escape fractions of , which might be the status for most of star-forming galaxies at . One UV-faint Ly galaxy with an extremely blue UV slope owns a large value of $f_{\rm esc}^{\rm…
