TL;DR
This study analyzes a high-luminosity X-ray pulsar, GRO J1750-27, revealing a stable pulse profile and spectral features across an outburst, suggesting a saturation effect in the accretion column at super-critical luminosities.
Contribution
It provides detailed spectral and timing analysis of GRO J1750-27 during a super-critical outburst, highlighting the stability of pulse profiles and spectral features at high luminosity levels.
Findings
Detection of a deep cyclotron line at 44 keV indicating a magnetic field of 4.7×10^12 G
Steady pulse profiles and spectral features throughout the outburst
Spectral analysis supports a bulk-Comptonization dominated accretion flow
Abstract
When accreting X-ray pulsars (XRPs) undergo bright X-ray outbursts, their luminosity-dependent spectral and timing features can be analysed in detail. The XRP GRO J1750-27 recently underwent one of such episodes, during which it was observed with and monitored with . Such a data set is rarely available, as it samples the outburst over more than a month at a luminosity that is always exceeding erg/s. This value is larger than the typical critical luminosity value, where a radiative shock is formed above the neutron star's surface. Our data analysis of the joint spectra returns a highly (cm) absorbed spectrum showing a K iron line, a soft blackbody component likely originating from the inner edge of the accretion disk, and confirms the discovery of one of the deepest cyclotron lines, at a centroid energy…
