ATLAS Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper measures the polarization fractions of W bosons from top-quark decays using dilepton events at 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector, confirming Standard Model predictions with high precision.
Contribution
It provides a precise measurement of W boson polarization in top decays at 13 TeV, utilizing a large dataset and advanced analysis techniques to test Standard Model predictions.
Findings
Measured polarization fractions are consistent with the Standard Model.
Achieved high statistical and systematic precision in the measurement.
Used differential cross-section of cos(theta*) for extraction.
Abstract
A measurement of the polarisation of bosons produced in top-quark decays is presented, using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of TeV. The data were collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb. The measurement is performed selecting events decaying into final states with two charged leptons (electrons or muons) and at least two -tagged jets. The polarisation is extracted from the differential cross-section distribution of the variable, where is the angle between the momentum direction of the charged lepton from the boson decay and the reversed momentum direction of the -quark from the top-quark decay, both calculated in the boson rest frame. Parton-level results, corrected for the detector acceptance and…
