Origin of Echo-Enabled Harmonic Generation
Vladimir N Litvinenko

TL;DR
This paper reviews two early 1980s publications on harmonic generation techniques related to Echo-Enabled Harmonic Generation (EEHG), highlighting their historical significance and lack of recognition in the FEL community.
Contribution
It uncovers and discusses the original 1980 publications on harmonic generation that form the basis of EEHG, which are largely unknown to current researchers.
Findings
Historical publications predate EEHG development
Original harmonic generation methods are foundational to EEHG
The papers are now accessible online for the first time
Abstract
In this paper I present overview of two preprints that were published at Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics in 1980 [1,2]. These original publications describing harmonic generation technique which has the same foundation as Echo-Enabled Har-monic Generation (EEHG). They recently become available online [3], but they are still unknown to FEL community. This paper is an attempt to cur-rent this omission.
