Shintaro Eijima, Osamu Seto, Takashi Shimomura

TL;DR
This paper reevaluates sterile neutrino dark matter within a gauged U(1)_{B-L} model, refining the parameter space by detailed density evolution analysis, which aligns with cosmological constraints and reveals new production mechanisms.
Contribution
It provides a more accurate calculation of sterile neutrino production and gauge coupling constraints, highlighting the importance of scalar contributions previously neglected.
Findings
Smaller gauge coupling needed for freeze-in sterile neutrinos.
Excluded large parameter space due to free-streaming constraints.
Identified dominant production of N from Z' pairs at B-L breaking scale.
Abstract
We reexamine sterile neutrino dark matter in gauged model. Improvements have been made by tracing and careful evaluation of the evolution of the number densities of sterile neutrinos and extra neutral gauge bosons . As a result, the cosmologically-interesting gauge coupling of for freeze-in sterile neutrinos turns out to be smaller than the values reported in the literature. This avoids the overproduction of so that it is consistent with the big bang nucleosynthesis and the cosmic microwave background constraints on the effective number of neutrino species. Similarly, the free-streaming length constraints exclude a large parameter space derived in previous studies. In addition to known freeze-in pair production of from the standard model fermion pairs, we find the case that is dominantly produced from a pair of at the temperature…
