Emad Shihab, Stefan Wagner, Marco A. Gerosa, Mairieli Wessel, and Jordi Cabot

TL;DR
This paper discusses the widespread adoption, current experiences, and future challenges of software engineering bots that automate tasks triggered by user actions and tool events.
Contribution
It provides a comprehensive overview of the state of software engineering bots, highlighting key experiences and identifying future challenges in their development and deployment.
Findings
Widespread adoption of engineering bots across domains
Identification of key challenges in bot integration and usability
Insights into future research directions for bot development
Abstract
We are witnessing a massive adoption of software engineering bots, applications that react to events triggered by tools and messages posted by users and run automated tasks in response, in a variety of domains. This thematic issues describes experiences and challenges with these bots.
