First Observation of the Direct Production of the $\chi_{c1}$ in $e^+e^-$ Annihilation
BESIII Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper reports the first direct observation of the $\chi_{c1}(1P)$ charmonium state produced in electron-positron annihilation, using an energy scan and interference analysis at BESIII, with measured electronic width consistent with theory.
Contribution
It presents the first experimental evidence of a $C$-even state directly produced in $e^+e^-$ annihilation, expanding understanding of charmonium production mechanisms.
Findings
$\chi_{c1}(1P)$ signal observed with 5.1$\sigma$ significance.
Electronic width measured as $\Gamma_{ee}=(0.12^{+0.13}_{-0.08})$ eV.
First direct production observation of a $C$-even state in $e^+e^-$ collisions.
Abstract
We study the direct production of the charmonium state in electron-positron annihilation by carrying out an energy scan around the mass of the . The data were collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. An interference pattern between the signal process and the background processes and are observed by combining all the data samples. The signal is observed with a significance of 5.1. This is the first observation of a -even state directly produced in annihilation. The electronic width of the resonance is determined to be , which is of the same order of…
