Reconfigurable Optical Networks with Self-Tunable Transceivers: Implementation Options and Control
Michael H. Eiselt

TL;DR
This paper reviews methods for autonomous tuning of optical transceivers using an overhead management channel, exploring various implementation options for the tuning process and tunable lasers to enhance optical network flexibility.
Contribution
It introduces different implementation options for self-tuning optical transceivers and discusses control mechanisms, advancing autonomous optical network management.
Findings
Multiple implementation options for self-tuning transceivers are presented.
The use of an overhead management channel enables autonomous tuning.
Potential improvements in optical network flexibility and management are identified.
Abstract
This paper reviews methods for autonomous tuning of optical transceivers, based on an overhead management channel between the modules on both sides of the link. Different implementation options for the tuning principle, as well as for the tunable laser are introduced.
