TL;DR
This study uses $^{75}$As NMR to reveal that CaMn$_2$As$_2$ exhibits an incommensurate antiferromagnetic state, while SrMn$_2$As$_2$ has a commensurate AFM state, highlighting different magnetic ordering in similar compounds.
Contribution
The paper demonstrates the use of $^{75}$As NMR to distinguish between incommensurate and commensurate AFM states in CaMn$_2$As$_2$ and SrMn$_2$As$_2$, revealing their magnetic structures.
Findings
CaMn$_2$As$_2$ has an incommensurate AFM state.
SrMn$_2$As$_2$ exhibits a commensurate AFM state.
Both compounds show large anisotropy in spin-lattice relaxation rates.
Abstract
We carried out As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on the trigonal CaMnAs and SrMnAs insulators exhibiting antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordered states below N\'eel temperatures = 62 K and 120 K, respectively. In the paramagnetic state above , typical quadrupolar-split As-NMR spectra were observed for both systems. The As quadrupolar frequency for CaMnAs decreases with decreasing temperature, while for SrMnAs increases, showing an opposite temperature dependence. In the AFM state, the relatively sharp and distinct As NMR lines were observed in SrMnAs and the NMR spectra were shifted to lower fields for both magnetic fields axis and plane, suggesting that the internal fields at the As site produced by the Mn ordered moments…
