Perturbative heavy quark contributions to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon
P. D. Kennedy, J. Erler, H. Spiesberger

TL;DR
This paper presents a perturbative QCD method to calculate heavy quark contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment, providing a fully theoretical approach that confirms previous results and offers new explicit formulas up to third order in \\alpha_s.
Contribution
It introduces a novel perturbative QCD approach for heavy quark contributions to a_\\mu, independent of experimental cross-section data, with explicit formulas up to \\alpha_s^3.
Findings
Charm quark contribution a_\\mu^c = (14.5 \\pm 0.2) x 10^{-10}
Bottom quark contribution a_\\mu^b = (0.302 \\pm 0.002) x 10^{-10}
Method confirms existing lower-order results and compares favorably with lattice QCD and dispersion relation approaches.
Abstract
We discuss a method for calculating the heavy quark vacuum polarisation contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment, , using perturbative QCD. This approach is independent of cross-section data allowing a fully theoretical evaluation of these contributions. We confirm an existing result at lower orders in and state a new explicit analytic formula which includes terms up to . Numerically the charm quark contribution to is found to be and the bottom contributes . Our uncertainty estimates include both parametric uncertainties from and , and theoretical uncertainties in the perturbative expansion. Comparison is made between these results and alternative approaches such as lattice QCD…
