TL;DR
This study investigates the low-temperature magnetic susceptibility of erbium aluminum borate single crystals, revealing Van Vleck paramagnetism and the effects of spin correlations, with implications for understanding magnetic interactions in such materials.
Contribution
The paper provides the first detailed analysis of Van Vleck paramagnetism and spin correlations in erbium aluminum borate single crystals at low temperatures.
Findings
Identified Van Vleck contribution to magnetic susceptibility.
Detected influence of spin correlations on susceptibility.
Estimated negative paramagnetic Curie-Weiss temperature.
Abstract
Temperature dependencies of magnetic susceptibility in a trigonal single crystal of erbium aluminum borate were measured in the temperature range of 2 - 15 K at the external field of 100 Oe applied along the second- and third-order crystallographic axes. Analysis of the experimental data allows to identify the Van Vleck contribution to the susceptibility. The influence of spin correlations on the magnetic susceptibility has been identified. It has been estimate the negative paramagnetic Curie-Weiss temperature.
