Character degrees in blocks and defect groups
Eugenio Giannelli, J. Miquel Mart\'inez, A. A. Schaeffer Fry

TL;DR
This paper investigates a question in representation theory regarding the relationship between the derived length of defect groups and the number of irreducible characters in a block, providing new evidence supporting the conjecture.
Contribution
The paper offers new evidence supporting Navarro's conjecture relating defect group derived length and block character degrees.
Findings
Supports the conjecture that derived length ≤ number of irreducible characters
Provides theoretical evidence aligning with Navarro's question
Advances understanding of block and defect group structure
Abstract
A recent question of Gabriel Navarro asks whether it is true that the derived length of a defect group is less than or equal to the number of degrees of irreducible characters in a block. In this article, we bring new evidence towards the validity of this statement.
