TL;DR
This paper presents an exact effective-medium theory for one-dimensional metamaterials using transfer matrix theory, introducing a class of perfect metamaterials where the theory applies without approximation.
Contribution
It introduces a no-approximation effective-medium theory for 1D metamaterials based on transfer matrix theory and defines perfect metamaterials with specific transfer matrix properties.
Findings
Exact EMT applicable to 1D perfect MMs
Defines perfect MMs with equal diagonal transfer matrix elements
Provides a framework for precise modeling of 1D metamaterials
Abstract
Transfer matrix theory (TMT) is used to study the effective-medium theory (EMT) of one dimensional metamaterials (1D MMs). 1D MMs with equal diagonal elements of periodic transfer matrix are defined as 1D perfect MMs (1D PMMs), which can be suitable for EMT with no approximation.
