TL;DR
This paper measures the production cross-sections of $J/$ mesons in proton-proton collisions at 5 TeV, providing detailed data on prompt and nonprompt production, and compares results with higher energy data and theoretical models.
Contribution
It provides the first detailed differential measurements of $J/$ production cross-sections at 5 TeV, including prompt and nonprompt components, and updates nuclear modification factors.
Findings
Prompt $J/$ cross-section: 8.154 μb
Nonprompt $J/$ cross-section: 0.820 μb
Results agree with theoretical predictions and higher energy measurements.
Abstract
The production cross-sections of mesons in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of TeV are measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of , collected by the LHCb experiment. The cross-sections are measured differentially as a function of transverse momentum, , and rapidity, , and separately for mesons produced promptly and from beauty hadron decays (nonprompt). With the assumption of unpolarised mesons, the production cross-sections integrated over the kinematic range and are for prompt mesons and for nonprompt mesons, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These cross-sections are compared with…
