Measurement of $b$-quark fragmentation properties in jets using the decay $B^{\pm} \to J/\psi K^{\pm}$ in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV with the ATLAS detector
ATLAS Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper measures how $b$-quarks fragment into $B$ mesons within jets at the LHC, providing detailed momentum profiles that help refine theoretical models of heavy-flavour jet formation.
Contribution
It presents the first detailed measurement of $b$-quark fragmentation properties in jets at 13 TeV using $B^{ m iny ±}$ decays, with results compared to various Monte Carlo models.
Findings
Measured longitudinal and transverse momentum profiles of $B$ mesons in jets.
Results show discrepancies with some Monte Carlo predictions, guiding model improvements.
Provides data across a range of jet transverse momenta from 50 GeV to above 100 GeV.
Abstract
The fragmentation properties of jets containing -hadrons are studied using charged mesons in 139 fb of collisions at TeV, recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC during the period from 2015 to 2018. The mesons are reconstructed using the decay of into , with the decaying into a pair of muons. Jets are reconstructed using the anti- algorithm with radius parameter . The measurement determines the longitudinal and transverse momentum profiles of the reconstructed hadrons with respect to the axes of the jets to which they are geometrically associated. These distributions are measured in intervals of the jet transverse momentum, ranging from 50 GeV to above 100 GeV. The results are corrected for detector effects and compared with several Monte Carlo predictions using different parton shower and…
