Yu. I. Yermolaev, A. A. Khokhlachev, I. G. Lodkina

TL;DR
This paper investigates the likelihood of inhomogeneous ionic composition along magnetic cloud axes and evaluates the reliability of existing assessment methods, highlighting potential limitations due to assumption violations.
Contribution
It critically examines the applicability of a recent method for assessing ionic inhomogeneities in magnetic clouds and discusses the impact of assumption violations.
Findings
Assessment method's reliability is compromised if assumptions are violated.
Potential inhomogeneities along magnetic cloud axes are difficult to reliably detect.
Highlights the need for more robust methods for composition analysis.
Abstract
In the present work, we study the possibility of assessing the inhomogeneities of the ionic composition along the axis of the magnetic cloud using the method that was recently used by Song et al. (2021). Possible violations of the used assumptions do not allow one to draw reliable conclusions.
