TL;DR
This study characterizes the mass, density, and orbital parameters of Wolf 503 b, a sub-Neptune orbiting a metal-poor K dwarf, using combined radial velocity and transit data, and discusses its composition and potential for atmospheric studies.
Contribution
First detailed mass and density measurement of Wolf 503 b using combined radial velocity and transit data, refining its orbital parameters and composition models.
Findings
Wolf 503 b has a mass of approximately 6.26 Earth masses.
Its density suggests an Earth-like core with possible water or a small H/He envelope.
The planet is suitable for atmospheric characterization due to its brightness and old age.
Abstract
Using radial velocity measurements from four instruments, we report the mass and density of a sub-Neptune orbiting the quiet K-dwarf Wolf 503 (HIP 67285). In addition, we present improved orbital and transit parameters by analyzing previously unused short-cadence campaign 17 photometry and conduct a joint radial velocity-transit fit to constrain the eccentricity at . The addition of a transit observation by also allows us to refine the orbital ephemeris in anticipation of further follow-up. Our mass determination, , in combination with the updated radius measurements, gives Wolf 503 b a bulk density of . Using interior composition models, we find this density is consistent with an Earth-like core with either a substantial…
