Measurement of prompt open-charm production cross sections in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = $ 13 TeV
CMS Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper reports measurements of prompt open-charm meson production cross sections in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV, providing data for testing quantum chromodynamics predictions and improving understanding of charm quark production.
Contribution
It presents the first detailed differential cross sections for D mesons at 13 TeV with CMS, comparing results to theoretical models and previous measurements.
Findings
Measured differential cross sections for D*±, D±, D0 mesons.
Results agree with certain QCD predictions within uncertainties.
Provides new data at 13 TeV for charm production studies.
Abstract
The production cross sections for prompt open-charm mesons in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV are reported. The measurement is performed using a data sample collected by the CMS experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 29 nb. The differential production cross sections of the D, D, and D () mesons are presented in ranges of transverse momentum and pseudorapidity 4 100 GeV and 2.1, respectively. The results are compared to several theoretical calculations and to previous measurements.
