An alternative to proportional-integral and proportional-integral-derivative regulators: Intelligent proportional-derivative regulators
Michel Fliess, C\'edric Join

TL;DR
This paper proposes replacing traditional PIs and PIDs with intelligent Proportional-Derivative controllers derived from model-free control, supported by laboratory experiments to demonstrate effectiveness.
Contribution
It introduces intelligent PD controllers as an alternative to PIs and PIDs, based on a novel model-free control approach.
Findings
iPD controllers perform comparably to traditional PIDs in experiments
Laboratory tests validate the effectiveness of iPD controllers
The approach simplifies control design without sacrificing performance
Abstract
This paper suggests to replace PIs and PIDs, which play a key role in control engineering, by intelligent Proportional-Derivative feedback loops, or iPDs, which are derived from model-free control. This standpoint is enhanced by a laboratory experiment.
