Electric dipole polarizability of neutron rich nuclei
J. Piekarewicz

TL;DR
This paper investigates the electric dipole polarizability of neutron-rich nuclei, revealing conflicts with neutron skin measurements and proposing future experimental plans to resolve these discrepancies.
Contribution
It introduces calibrated energy density functionals to analyze the tension between different measurements of neutron-rich matter properties.
Findings
Identifies a conflict between neutron skin thickness and electric dipole polarizability data.
Highlights how future Gamma Factory experiments could resolve existing tensions.
Provides calibrated models to interpret neutron-rich nuclei properties.
Abstract
Insights into the equation of state of neutron rich matter obtained from the neutron skin thickness of 208Pb are in sharp conflict with earlier measurements of the electric dipole polarizability. We use a set of accurately calibrated energy density functionals to highlight the tension and to articulate how plans for a highly-intense Gamma Factory may alleviate the tension.
