Gianmarco De Francisci Morales, Corrado Monti, Michele Starnini

TL;DR
This study challenges the common belief of echo chambers in online political discussions by showing evidence of cross-cutting interactions and asymmetrical engagement between supporters of Trump and Clinton on Reddit during the 2016 US elections.
Contribution
It provides empirical evidence that contradicts the echo chamber narrative, revealing asymmetric and cross-cutting political interactions on Reddit, and introduces a null model approach to analyze social media dynamics.
Findings
Cross-cutting interactions are more common than within-group interactions.
Clinton supporters are more eager to respond to Trump supporters.
Interactions are influenced by geographical homophily and voter abstention.
