Quasi-streamwise vortices and enhanced dissipation for the incompressible 3D Navier-Stokes equations
In-Jee Jeong, Tsuyoshi Yoneda

TL;DR
This paper investigates how quasi-streamwise vortices in a 3D incompressible flow lead to enhanced dissipation, providing mathematical proof within a specific vortex-shear flow setting.
Contribution
It offers a rigorous proof of enhanced dissipation effects caused by quasi-streamwise vortices in a 3D Navier-Stokes framework under a 2+1/2-dimensional setting.
Findings
Proved enhanced dissipation due to quasi-streamwise vortices.
Analyzed vortex stretching by shear flow.
Established mathematical framework for vortex-induced dissipation.
Abstract
We consider the 3D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations under the following -dimensional situation: vertical vortex blob (quasi-streamwise vortices) being stretched by two-dimensional shear flow. We prove enhanced dissipation induced by such quasi-streamwise vortices.
